Cruise holidays have never been more popular. For many people however, it's quite daunting to know where to begin. Will I enjoy it? Who is cruising for? Will I be bored? These are a few of the many questions asked by all first-time cruisers. The answer is simple. No matter what your lifestyle, aspirations or time of life, there is a cruise ship to suit your every requirement. There are child-free and child-friendly ships to choose from, ships that range from the contemporary and innovative, to the traditional. So whether you are travelling with children, on your own, as a couple or in a group, you will find nowhere more welcoming. And we're here to ensure you find the cruise that's right for you.
Today you will find cruising has come a long way, with an ever-expanding range of modern superliners to choose from, some of which taking as many as 2000 plus passengers on board, and equipped with facilities such as an ice-skating rink and rock-climbing wall! So whether you seek adventure and excitement, or relaxation and sunshine, you can rest assured you'll receive the highest standards of service at value-for-money fares.
Q) So what is there to do?
You get so much more than a traditional land-based holiday - luxury accommodation, exquisite cuisine and professional entertainment, together with ever-changing scenery. Wake up to a new destination almost every day, giving you the opportunity to explore new places, whether it's an exotic Caribbean island, or the hustle and bustle of a cosmopolitan city. Life on board, however, is ultimately just as inviting as your time ashore. Most ships are equipped with swimming pools, a fitness room and spa, shops, stylish cafés and bars, and a whole programme of entertainment. For those of you seeking pure tranquillity and relaxation, there are always plenty of areas on board designed with you in mind, whether it's a library, a quiet sundeck, or an adults only pool to name but a few.
Q) Where and when do I eat?
All ships offer a main dining room, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, usually waiter service. Most ships do offer alternative dining areas, from self-service to silver service, A la Carte venues, and snack bars (often open 24 hours). Some of the larger vessels have as many as eight restaurants, ranging from Mediterranean cuisine to Japanese, Steakhouses to Celebrity created restaurants, such as esteemed chef Gary Rhode's restaurant onboard P&O's Arcadia.
Q) Which type of cabin shall I choose?
Whichever cabin you choose it will be discreetly attended to by your cabin steward, so you'll always find it in shipshape condition. You'll return to find your bed turned down, fresh clean towels and a sparkling bathroom. You're often given the choice of comfortable twin or double beds and most cabins are equipped with dressing table and chairs, ample wardrobe space and tea and coffee making facilities. And that's the least you can expect. For a slight increase in fare you can enjoy panoramic sea views, or better still why not opt for a touch more luxury and take advantage of your own private balcony - an ideal place for breakfast or cocktails. If you're celebrating a special occasion or simply feeling a little indulgent you can choose from a range of opulent suites with additional space, a private balcony, a luxurious bathroom and special butler service.
Q) What's included in the fare?
The fare is generally made up of your cabin accommodation and meals on a full board basis (although some alternative dining options carry a surcharge). Daytime entertainment is included, for example swimming pools, jacuzzis, gymnasium, sports court, and library to name but a few. By night these 'floating resorts' offer evening entertainment such as lavish stage shows, west end theme shows, live bands, comedians, and night club etc. All international flights to and from the UK on fly-cruise holidays are included, and transfers to/from the overseas airport/port.
Q) What about tipping?
It is customary, on the majority of ships, to offer tips to staff who you feel have given you excellent service and attention, as a way of saying 'Thank you'. Each ship varies the suggested amount but you will be given a guideline by the operator, either before you travel or in your cabin.
